Obtaining a Passive Residency with International Projection

Administrative requirements of the Passive residency for Digital Influencers in Andorra

To obtain passive residency, the following administrative requirements must be met:

  • Stay of at least 90 days per year in Andorran territory.
  • At least 85% of the turnover must be made outside Andorra.
  • Renting or buying an apartment, house, etc., to establish your residence in Andorra.
  • Demonstrate income above 300% of Andorra's annual minimum wage (€40k) and an additional 100% (€13.5k) for each dependent.
  • Make a deposit of €47,500 to the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) and an additional €10,000 for each person in charge.
  • Taking out private health insurance for medical expenses in Andorra.
  • Taking out a private pension plan.
  • General medical check-up.
  • Criminal record certificate.

Taxes for Digital Influencers with Passive Residency with International Projection

They are taxed at the Personal Income Tax office at a maximum rate of 10%, with the first €24,000 being exempt, and applying a maximum rebate of €800 in the tax liability for obtaining certain income.

It is very important to analyse each specific case in detail, because if royalties (image rights from third countries) are received, they could be subject to a higher withholding tax in the countries of origin. In these cases, it is very important to foresee and plan for the possible tax effects of the change of residence.

Obtaining an Active Residency as a self-employed person and creating a company

Administrative requirements for self-employed active residency

  • Establish your tax domicile in Andorra.
  • Stay a minimum of 183 days in Andorra.
  • Have more than 34% of a company and act as its director .
  • Certificate certifying the rental or purchase of a property in Andorra.
  • Submit the criminal record certificate.
  • Be self-employed.
  • Carry out a satisfactory medical check-up before the Andorran Immigration Department.
  • Contribute to the Andorran Social Security (CASS).
  • Make a deposit of €50,000 at the AFA (which will be returned if you leave the country)

This permit to live in Andorra is valid for one year, and can be renewed three times for periods of two years. At the end of the seven years, the residence permit is renewed every ten years. These conditions also apply to the permit obtained for employment.

Taxes for Digital Influencers who carry out their activity through a company

  • Companies are taxed at  a rate of 10% on the profit for the year.
  • Rental costs, computer equipment and communications expenses, among others, are tax-deductible expenses in the company's accounting, reducing the final amount to be taxed.
  • The dividends distributed by the company are exempt from personal income tax, i.e. they are not taxed.

Obtaining a Digital Nomad Residency

To obtain the residency for digital nomads, the following administrative requirements must be met:

  • Stay of at least 90 days per year in Andorran territory.
  • Have obtained a favourable resolution from the Ministry of Economy and Business to be considered a person who, in order to carry out their work, does not need to have a specific geographical location and uses technology (i.e. to be considered a digital nomad).
  • Prove that you have sufficient financial means.
  • Taking out private health insurance for medical expenses in Andorra.
  • Be  a homeowner or renter.
  • General medical check-up.
  • Criminal record certificate.

This permit to live in Andorra is valid for one year, and can be renewed three times for periods of two years. At the end of the seven years, the residence permit is renewed every ten years. These conditions also apply to the permit obtained for employment.

Economic requirements must be met, such as making a deposit in the AFA, an annual income level above 300% of the minimum wage, 85% of the turnover must be outside Andorra, staying for a minimum period of effective residence of 90 days and taking out private health insurance.

With the self-employed active residence permit you must stay in Andorra for 183 days. With the Passive residency for professionals with international projection, you must be in the Principality for 90 effective days, however, to be a tax resident you will have to stay at least 183 effective days in Andorra. 

In the case of opting for a passive residence permit with international projection, you must make a deposit of 47,500 euros in the AFA, plus 9,500 euros per dependent. In the case of an active self-employed residence, this deposit will be 50,000 euros. In both cases, the deposit will be returned to you at the time you decide to stop residing in Andorra.
